The highlight of the week was joining 8 other club members in attending the dinner to welcome our Rotary International President, Mark Maloney, to Sydney. His main message was reminding us of our challenge to strengthen the many ways that Rotary connects the World, building connections that allow talented, thoughtful and generous people to unite and take meaningful action thru Rotary service. He recalled how he was involved in the fantastic RI World Convention held in Sydney in 2014, including thanking our members, Harold & Angelo, for their efforts on the organizing committee. He also reminded us of some great achievements done by Rotary, including the eradication of Polo. (No questions allowed, so I was unable to ask about why Rotary does not appear more often in documentaries about this great project – as discussed at last Monday’s meeting).Please note the attached photo of Bill and Lydia attending the function.
Our club’s Melbourne trifecta tickets, so please start selling them. Bill has kindly offered to co-ordinate the distribution & sale of the tickets.
Please also note that I have issued a member’s survey on whether we should move venues for our Monday meetings. Please take 2 minutes & respond.
Looking forward to many of you returning from holidays next Monday.
Next Meeting Monday 30th September 2019 - Virginia Keenan on Best Life Transitions
This talk is about a new business venture - "Best Life Transitions" which has a target market of retirees/seniors. It will provide a project management service to assist seniors in downsizing, relocating to retirement villages, etc. It is particularly focussed on those that have no-one to assist them – e.g. never married, no family, children live on the other side of the world, etc.
The services provided will include assistance with inspection/choice of a retirement village or just a smaller property, preparing a property for sale(arranging a gardener, decluttering, maintenance, etc), the introduction a sales agent. Vendor advocate, assistance with Centrelink and other administrative requirements in conjunction with lawyers and financiers).
The aim is to coordinate this very overwhelming process and take the pain and anxiety away.

Despite a number of apologies, it was extremely pleasing to see the room was full with so many members & guests attending to catch-up with District Governor Kalma.
DG Kalma enjoyed the meeting and I personally appreciated her feedback / tips.
In an email on Tuesday; Thank you for the great photos Philip – these are great!
And thank you President Mark, and to all your club members, for having me yesterday and allowing me to share a little time with you all. I really appreciate your contributions across the District, and for giving me a chance to talk with you all. Rgds DG Kalma
DG Kalma approved of our Plans for our Rotary Year 2019-20 and wished us well. Club Officers and Members spoke on what our Club was currently involved in and DG Kalma gave a really rousing motivational response to each subject raised. Members do really appreciate the DG's annual visit to our Club!
Background;
Kalma joined the Rotary Club of Ryde in 2010, and has held many positions Including President, and in District; District Community Service Chair, and on the District Child Protection Committee. Kalma has a heritage in Rotary, following in the footsteps of her father (Blacktown club) and grandfather (Manly club). She was a Mosman Rotaractor in the 1970s. Professionally, Kalma works in the vocational education sector through Western Sydney University.
Kalma’s Theme this year is ‘Rotary Connects the World’.
Rotarians who have been around for years, know that ROMAC is a major Australian Multi-District Project, that has been around for some 30 years and has been renewing, no, rebuilding Children from overseas.
To keep ROMAC floating well, it needs ongoing funding. In the letter below, Harold invites all Rotarians to take ROMAC 'under their wing' and make sure the future of ROMAC is guaranteed!!
Australia is very fortunate this year, as the Rotary International President is coming to a special Dinner on 23rd September 2019 at the Epping Club, so please put this date into your diary now!
