Mat Cannon is a 2010 graduate of the Rotary Youth Leadership Award and Young Citizen of the year 2008           Ku-Ring-Gai.   He attended school at Knox Grammar and commenced a Bachelor of Nursing in 2008 at the University of Technology.  In 2010 he  commenced  his paramedic training with NSW Ambulance. Mat has been a volunteer with St. John since joining Hornsby division as a cadet in 2003.  12 years on he is a qualified paramedic, registered nurse and completing a Masters of Public Health and Master of Health Service Management at the UNSW. Mat has worked for NSW Ambulance as a paramedic, been an advisor for the Minister of Health as Minister Liason Office, undertaken research for St John in Canada and developed clinical protocols for NSW Ambulance. Mat was a special envoy to PNG helping St John Ambulance during the Pacific Games in Port Moresby 2015.  St John's PNG is a statutory body and the Ambulance service for the PNG Government.  Mat was asked by the Chair of St John PNG to return help redesign and redevelop the service. Mat has been appointed Chief Staff Officer of st John PNG providing technical advice to the ambulance service and helping to prepare it to provide emergency support to the APEC Leaders summit in 2018.  This role has challenged him both professionally and personally.
