Enough to keep us occupied.
Also, a special mention to Tom for stepping in at short notice as our “Guest Speaker” last Monday, to give us a very entertaining and enlightening talk on his “Theatre Experiences” with Willoughby Amateur Theatre Group. Well done, Tom.
Next Meeting is Monday 17th May - Alex Bowler, Bunnings.
Alex is a long term valued member of the Bunnings Executive, and will address 'informally' 'behind the scenes' ie where you spend ALL your Superannuation money each week!!!!
See you at the Union Hotel
Assistant Governor John Zhang will also be attending.
We still are continuing to rotate every 2nd week between Zoom & Union Hotel.
Last Meeting Monday: 10th May 2021 our speaker was Tom Sweeney.
Our own Tom Sweeney, President of the Willougby Theatre Company, walked us thru the massive effort required to produce one of their shows. Their standards & processes match those of a professional company. They have produced shows like Phantom of the Opera, Evita, Mamma Mia and will open this weekend with Priscilla, Queen of the Desert.
First challenge is choosing which show. Issues include which shows are available & affordable. Will it attract customers & what cast are required & available? Then think auditions, budget, roles, rehearsals, costumes, scenery, lighting, props, makeup after forming production & technical teams. An example is a budget of hundreds of thousands of dollars covering Royalties, venue hire, the set and, in the case of Priscilla, over 1,000 costumes.
We were inspired by a number of photos of previous shows, and Tom’s claim to fame of casting 18year old Hugh Jackman in Paint My Wagon in 1989.
Tom has offered to show the club “behind the scenes” when we visit Priscilla on Sunday 23rd May. (4 tickets still available).
Another amusing & informative presentation. Thanks Tom.
