PRESIDENT'S COLUMN
Dear Rotarians and Friends,
Its that time of year again, and I wish you all a very Happy Christmas time.  I have been President of the Rotary Club of Crows Nest for six months now, and I have been so impressed with the work of my fellow Board Members towards the aims and objectives of the Club.  My thanks to all the Board Members and members of the Club for the support and advice I have received.
Today, it was my great pleasure to induct Marian Pereria as our newest Club Member.   I extend a 'warm Welcome' to you Marian, and I ask all our Members to Welcome Marian to our friendly Club.
It was especially great to see and welcome back Richard.    Also, we welcomed back Celia after her recent surgery.   We missed both of you at our Meetings and on behalf of all our Members I extend our Best Wishes to both of you.
Our Guest Speaker, Pat Laird from Naremburn School presented an overview of the school and a detailed account of it's everyday activities.
Our Members expressed great interest in working with the school in possible projects in the New Year.  Currently the school requires specific books for the students and you can read a little more later in our Bulletin.
Our area's Christmas Carols event at Crows Nest is on again this Sunday 9th December from 4pm to 7pm.  Our Members will be manning the BBQ !  I hope to see you all there, Singing!!
Next Monday night our Club will hold its Annual Giving Night, during which we redistribute funds that we have raised during 2017 to 2018, Past President Alon’s year, by presenting cheques to the representatives of worthy organisations.  The night also represents the Club’s Christmas Party night.  I hope you will all come along to “La Grillade’, (one of our most famous restaurants in Crows Nest) and will enjoy the evening!   If you haven’t booked yet with our Past President Alon, please let me know asap.
Monday evening will be our last Rotary get together for 2018.  Our meetings resume on Monday 14th January 2019 at 12.30pm, in the church hall, the Northside Baptist Church.  Our Club has met at this venue for the last 12 months, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank, Josh and the Deacons of the church for allowing our Club to use it's hall.
I wish each of you a very Merry Christmas and Best Wishes for the New Year.
Cheers
Susan

Our Speaker this week was Patricia Laird, the Principal of the Naremburn School, Willoughby Road, Crows Nest.
Patricia presented an overview of the school and it's activities.  Students who have exhausted the support offerred in their mainstream school may be referred to Naremburn School through a referral process. The school provides individualised education aimed at addressing each student's academic, emotional, vocational and behavioural needs.   The program caters for students in years seven to twelve.
Currently the school requires new, specific school books, a list is shown below.  If you would like to make a donation to the school this Christmas, then the purchase of a book on the list would make a substantial difference to one of the school's students.  Just let our Secretary Mark know that you have a book for collection and he will arrange to pick it up.  You may send an email to our Secretary Mark, using the email service on our Website.  The list of books is below.

Rotary Club of Nakuru-East Polkot Project

Based on the needs assessment of 5 schools in East Pokot there is an obvious and urgent need of WASH programs in the schools. There appears to be an enabling environment for a successful project and high engagement with multiple key stakeholders during the needs assessment. There was a wide range of data collection tools used to ensure accurate representation of needs is being reported. It is recommended that Rotary Club of Nakuru pursue a Global Grant to address the urgent need and select a cooperating organization that is experienced in WASH in schools, has the ability to execute projects in a timely fashion, and has reasonable costs.
