PRESIDENT'S COLUMN
Dear Members and Friends,
Very interesting talk by our Guest Speaker on Monday, Angus McGrath from the NSW Ambulance Service explaining the incredible and diverse work carried out by our “Ambos”, and like the evolution of these type of jobs, now requires University qualification to gain full entry, and despite all this, invariably they require special security to avoid harassment and assaults by some members of our community.   Despite all this, the subject certainly created a lot of discussion and questions.  An excellent topic.
Good to hear Sue’s update on the Dementia Café, which will be finally getting underway at the end of April.  Conversely sad to hear from Cyril about Bruce’s northern move last month, only to be severely affected by the floods, when water swept through his new residence, damaging full storage boxes not yet unpacked.
Also, a warm welcome to Ann O’Shannassy visiting our Club.
Ann is a long time Rotarian and is at present a member of Ryde Club but now needs to attend a day Rotary meeting, so I’m sure we’ll go out of our way to extend Ann a warm welcome.
Finally don’t forget those on BBQ duty this coming Saturday, please check the roster.
The next social evening at the Condell’s residence, Bilgola Beach, ‘bring a plate’ function.   The date is the Monday 4pm, the 26th April, (last day of the long Anzac Day weekend).   So please, make sure you put that date in your diary now!   If the date causes concerns for anyone, please let me know.
In the meantime, I know it is four months away, but please enter another date in your diaries!  Our Presidents annual Changeover Dinner is booked for Monday 28th June 2021, at 6.30pm, at the Northbridge Golf Club.  No doubt pandemic restrictions may impose a maximum number of people who can attend, so please let me know if you would like to attend.  Formal Invitations will issue soon, so first in to register will guarantee a seat.  We are hoping to have a high ranking member of the NSW Government to address us on the progress being made fighting the pandemic.

So, in the meantime stay safe.
Yours In Rotary
President Ian

We operate three 24/7 and two semi-independent accommodation programs and also offer community housing programs that provide a streamlined pathway, from homelessness and family breakdown, to independence and stability. Taldumande also provides residential support to young people who are under the supervision of Juvenile Justice in our Young Offenders Intervention Program and we also focus on preserving and restoring families with young people 12 to 15 in our Family Preservation and Restoration Program.

Last Meeting Monday:  22nd March 2021 our speaker was Angus McGrath, a Paramedic from the NSW Ambulance Service, who is their Advisor Community adn Relations, Media and Communication Paramedic Service.

Angus told us all about the wonderful NSW Ambulance Service that works away in the background of our lives, and is there when we need them!   They have over 5,000 staff! 250 Ambulance Stations across NSW, and 3,700 Paramedics with 100 coming on line each year.  Their Service covers Pick Ups, Transfers, Helecopters, and their Fixed Wing Aircraft Service.  Their headquarters is in Everly, Sydney and they have other control centres at Newcastle, and Dubbo.  Their Aero Medical service works out of Bankstown Airport.  Apart from their Ambulance Service, they attend events, films, Universities and undertake Training in Care Homes, Pre-schools, Primary Schools, and High Schools, for road safety, Alcohol risks, Risky escapades, and Drug affects. And they have Retirees Programs.  Angus said their work in Schools is to ensure that as children grow up, they must learn about how they can ring triple zero, and what that means and how it triggers the whole NSW Medical service.  All members learnt a lot about NSW Ambulance and how it co-works with other services such as the Royal Flying Doctor Service.   A great Speaker!

International Toast - was proposed by the President; the Rotary Club of Beijing, China.  There is no official website for this Club, but upon visiting five years ago, they have a thriving Club, lots of ex-pat visitors and lots of projects.

We are delighted to invite you to our 2021 Gala Dinner to raise much needed funds for homeless and vulnerable children and young people.

Since COVID-19 began, Taldumande has had a major increase in demand. This has meant that a staggering 326 children and young people have been turned away since the beginning of the pandemic. This figure is more than double the turnaways from the previous year.  This number will continue to rise without your help.

Please help us by purchasing a ticket or table for our Gala Dinner.  The cost is $220 a ticket.

We will have many fantastic experiences up for auction and we are taking tax deductible pledges.

We are excited that our Patron, Her Excellency the Honourable Margaret Beazley AC QC, Governor of New South Wales, will be attending our Gala Dinner.

We look forward to seeing you there!
