PRESIDENT'S COLUMN

My fellow Rotarians,

At Today’s Meeting Angelo Raveane was my voiceover as I was left voiceless by a particularly nasty cold. We had a visit from Past President Andre Harriman from Chatswood Sunrise Rotary Club who updated us on the Combined Clubs Trivia Night on the 25th August and Marian Pereria as a guest and potential Member.

Our Guest Speaker today was John Saunders who encouraged Our Club to raise our profile in our local community. John suggested a number of ways to advertise that there IS a Rotary Club in Crows Nest. John also shared some interesting ideas on how to enliven a Meeting.

Next week Past District Governor Gina Growden will be our Guest Speaker . Gina will be speaking  to us about her RI role on how to promote Rotary and the tools available to achieve this.

See you next Monday

Sue

Last Meeting -  Monday July 23rd 2018.

Bill gave the International toast  to the Rotary Club of Malta ,  founded in 1967 with 22 members, and despite numerous attempts the Club remain only a male Club in sunny Malta.
Sue ,via her interpreter, Angelo, reminded everyone of the up and coming visit by PDG Gina Growden on the 30th of July.A very important topic for us all.
Also,as with last week's minutes there was further discussion around the plight of NSW farmers ,strickened by drought and the co-ordinated efforts of Rotarians to supply aid , mainly via goods and food vouchers.
Andre, from Chatswood Sunrise was promoting their Trivia Night on the 25th of August. Also mentioned was the 90th birthday celebration  for North Sydney Club.
Phil Smith was a surprise attendee, having to cut short his Rotarian Motorcycle run through Central Australia due to the death of his near neighbour. However Phil returns to Tennant Creek  in a fortnight to gather his much loved m/cycle and return via Longreach and the coast.
The organisers of our own 50th Anniversay next year have big plans already, like using Government house as a venue and having Gladys attend.
Today ,our speaker,John Saunders lead an open discussion on Club Promotion and Club membership .

Like the weeks in between our Guest Speaker meetings , John will select a member at random ,and give one weeks notice for them to prepare a talk on a topic John selects . Also discussed how we increase our active membership ,currently at 21.Finally how we go about promoting our Club ,an example would be  by using professionally designed stickers , using slogans such as "Rotary Needs You" to be put in shops ,buildings in the Crows Nest shopping centre , plus the on car rear windows , with a phone number(this phone number would come from a phone purchased by the Club and will be shared by members)

News

  • Last Saturday's BBQ started off slowly but by lunchtime was under full steam, and by the end of the day very few supplies remained. Next BBQ on the 4th of August, please check the roster.

Reminders
  • Monday August 13th , District Governor Susan Wakefield official visit to our Club Meeting.
  • Saturday 25th August - Trivia night @ Chatswood Rotary
  • Our parent club North Sydney is celebrating its 90th year of service on the 16th August.

As it was North Sydney that formed the Rotary Club of Crows Nest 49 years ago I feel we should have some presence at this celebration. To date the Raveane's and Lee's are going it would be great if others could join us
  • The Rotary Leadership Conference is currently below critical mass for RLI 48 Part 1 starting on Saturday 4 August with Part 2 on 25 August. It is great value at $75 including lunches and teas and all course materials.  RLI is proven to boost Club retention through arming Rotarians with skills and knowledge, and enthusing them for their Rotary experience . The convenor, Ian Scott, would dearly love this RLI to go ahead so he is asking again for members to register at:   rli.rotarydistrict9685.org.au  - participants will enjoy the course.
  • Finally a reminder ,that with the bank holiday on the 6th of August, there will be a meeting
