Hi Rotarians and Friends,

Another good turnout for our night meeting. We were joined by three prospective new members.
Our next night meeting is on the 9th December our annual Giving/Xmas Night. This year it will be even bigger as we will be joining with Lane Cove Rotary Club. Please RSVP as soon as possible as we need to notify the Club our number attending.
Tom and Kate have sourced a number of interesting venues for meetings next year.
Again as in past years we have been asked to provide a BBQ for the Carols at the Crows Nest Centre on Sunday 8th. It usually is from 3.30pm to about 5.30pm. If you can help please contact Mark as he is coordinating the event.
By now you will have received my email with details for the payment of ticket sales from the trifecta. This year’s winner was Belle De Graaf, member Bruce’s daughter.
Applications for RYLA are now open, please contact George if you have any candidates.
This month is designated as “Days of Action”. Northbridge Rotary in conjunction with Willoughby Council have organised a Solidarity  Walk supporting victims of Domestic Violence on the 29th November.
Members are encouraged to register for the District Conference in March to be held at the Pullman in Penrith. It is a great opportunity to learn more about Rotary as well as a meeting place for like-minded people to share ideas.
Last night a number of us went to see the play “39 Steps” put on by the Pymble players. A great night and a good fundraiser for Polio Plus. The next event will be at the Zenith Theatre in Chatswood in March featuring a play directed by our own Joy Sweeney.

Angelo

Last Meeting  - Monday 18th November- Kerry Luxton

Kerry leads Fisherfolk Educational Support Project , helping to improve education for children in Kolkata fishing communities since 2016. By collaborating with local educators & families, the project funds teachers salaries, provides school supplies, offers teacher training, and addresses social issues such as literacy, child labour, and early marriage.  Partnering with Kajla.org.in Kerry's work fosters sustainable development and educational opportunities, helping to break cycles of poverty and create brighter futures for these communities.

Kerry explain about her 6 educational support centres, which are in addition to the schools. Children attend before & after schools, including Saturdays ,  and are focused on personal development and sport. They have the challenges of Asbestos buildings, cyclones, and no Government funding. (costs the project $20,000 per year)

A key focus is educating the parents on the "Value of education", which only works by engaging the villages by meeting elders and mothers.

An inspiring North Shore housewife who spends 1-5 months there every year.

Thank you Kerry.

RNSH  Neonatal donation
Last Wednesday a team from the club presented the two Phillips Lullaby Phototherapy units to the RNSH Neonatal unit. These units play a critical part in reducing jaundice in babies born prematurely. They are state of the art and much more efficient than the lights they have been using.

Crows Nest Fair 2024
CROWS NEST FAIR 2024

The club participated in the Annual Crows Nest Fair, along with numerous other local charities & local businesses.  This year it was great to have Mary’s House joined us.  As usual it was fun to interact with the “locals” and ‘fly the Rotary flag’.  Even better was the expressions of interest in becoming members of Rotary from at least 7 individuals on the day.
Many thanks to all the members who assisted, engaging with the community proudly representing the values of the Club and Lea Condell who co-ordinated the set-up and manning of the stall.
