Another virtual Meeting with such a great Guest Speaker in Katrina from Vinnies showing an amazing insight to their operations generating much discussion, like it’s incredible to think that more than half of their collections they need to discard as they are unsaleable, which places a considerable cost on their organisation.
Back on BBQ duty this coming Saturday, so if you haven’t already please check the Roster, any queries check with Howard or myself.
Also this Saturday, for those not on BBQ duty, there is the virtual District Conference, so please make sure you’re enrolled to either watch direct or review at a later date.
So we look forward to seeing you all at the Union hotel next Monday, when we have another great Presenter this week discussing 'your eyes over 50!', so don't miss it!
Phil has booked in the next social evening at the Condell’s residence, Bilgola Beach. The date is the Monday 4pm, the 26th of April, (last day of the long Anzac Day weekend). So please, make sure you put that date in your diary now! If the date causes concerns for anyone, please let me know.
In the meantime, I know it is four months away, but please enter another date in your diaries! Our Presidents annual Changeover Dinner is booked for Monday 28th June 2021, at 6.30pm, at the Northbridge Golf Club. No doubt pandemic restrictions may impose a maximum number of people who can attend, so please let me know if you would like to attend. Formal Invitations will issue soon, so first in to register will guarantee a seat. We are hoping to have a high ranking member of the NSW Government to address us on the progress being made fighting the pandemic.
Next Weeks Meeting on 15th March Face to Face at the Union Hotel, West St and Pacific Highway, 12.30pm.
Our Speaker will be Mr Chris Hodge who will explain and discuss 'eyes over 50!' its expected challenges and treatments.
Chris is the research coordinator at Vision Eye Institute and is responsible for running clinical trials and developing research projects across Vision. Vision is the largest private provider of specialist ophthalmic care in Australia. Locally, Vision has rooms at Mosman and Chatswood with their ophthalmologists covering all areas of ophthalmology from clinic to surgery.
Last Meeting Monday: 8th March 2021 our speaker was Ms Katrina Ortolan, from Vinnies! who explained what their organisation does, its challenges, aims and objectives.
Vince de Paul, ie Vinnies, has over 250 shops throughout Australia and has an income from those shops in the tens of millions of dollars, but they also have to pay for all the donated goods which they cannot sell, yes, straight to landfill!
All their income goes to help the homeless throughout the State. Each State operates independently, except for the national Red Shield Appeal. Each area has a committee that organises activities in their area through community work teams, such as assisting people pay their electricity bill, or rental, etc. Katrina advised that there is no 'a typical' homeless people, and we would be surprised by the different types of people who need assistance. There are lots of 'couch surfers' such as women who are about to retire or example.
It would be interesting to see your Club link up with the Vinnies local committee to see where we can help each other.
