PRESIDENT'S COLUMN

Hello, Members and our Rotary Friends receiving this eBulletin.
Our next Bunnings BBQ is on 9th April, with this net profit we assist our Community!

With only a few months to go, Rotary International has released their new theme for the Rotary year 2022-23, ‘Imagine’ Rotary.

The incoming International President considers this theme a call to action for Rotarians!  People join Rotary because they can achieve more working in a group, than on their own.  Rotarians get up each day knowing they can make a difference!   Imagine what you can achieve in the future if you join Rotary?  Click on this link to see the Theme message.

Next week Monday 11th April, our meeting will be at the Union Hotel at 12.30pm, join us and learn what Rotary is doing in your community.

Stay safe, be careful, wear your mask!

President's Extra Message
Our Social events continue and remember, all are welcome!; the next Club social night, is 9th May when we have a combined local Rotary Club’s ‘Indonesian Dinner’, at the Lane Cove Golf Club.  See below for Bookings;

Another Social Event is our ‘Club's Fellowship Party Night’ to be held at Storage Works on the 14th of May!  Details to follow.

D’Cafe
The good news is that the D’Cafe recommenced last fortnight, after almost 18 months on hold due to the pandemic!; and 10 visitors came and enjoyed morning tea with our Volunteers!  Well done Sue and Denise our other volunteers!  If you know of a friend or relative suffering with Dementia, consider coming to the monthly D’Cafe events!

We tend to take for granted the clean and generally safe and plentiful water sources to which we have access.  Rotary International, through the combined actions of individual Rotarians and Rotary Clubs, seeks to assure that all people have adequate access to clean and safe water.   The Rotary theme for March, Water and Sanitation, asks us to focus on the life changing improvements that we can make through these international, as well as local projects to provide a more readily available and healthy supply of water to all people.
The Rotary Foundation has established a Disaster Response Fund to provide assistance to resident of Rotary Districts around the World.  Rotary Disaster Response Grants support relief and recovery efforts in areas that have been affected by natural disasters within the past six months.
Our District is preparing an application for a Disaster Response Grant to aid resident of our District 9685.  We can only apply for one grant of up to $US 25,000,(about $AU 34,000) and must describe projects ready to use these funds specifically for this disaster.  These will be Rotary-initiated projects, not simply payments to another organization.
We can combine contributions from several clubs into one application.  Lets consider this!

Next Meeting is Monday, the 11th of April - Speaker will be Maggie from Epilepsy Action Australia

At the age of 22 Maggie developed grand mal seizures for no apparent reason. It just happened one night while she was in bed asleep. No family history.

Maggie continued to have seizures and would end up in hospital every three or four months with uncontrolled seizures. She would have six or more seizures within an hour or so. The number of times it was presumed Maggie was having a drug over-does was confronting.

After much looking and several neurologist, Maggie was able to find the Epilepsy Clinic at RPAH who worked with her and their team of professionals to find the best possible outcome.

Maggie had surgery in 2005 and has been seizure free since then.
Maggie continues to take medication and will continue to do so for the rest of her life.

Maggie currently works in HR and is completing a Bachelor of Laws.

THIS MEETING WILL BE HELD at the UNION HOTEL.

We have returned to every 2nd week @ the Union hotel (Cnr Pacific Highway & West St, North Sydney)  , and Alterative weeks  via Zoom.
Check weekly eBulletin for confirmation of venue.
