Despite a large number of apologies, we had a productive meeting with guests Ken Preshaw (North Sydney Sunrise President) & Philip Smith (our Past President).
No guest speaker, but healthy discussions on some key club items, prior to formal approval at the next Board Meeting on Thursday August 21st.
(see the details in Club meeting notes). I appreciated the input from all, and we have identified a few opportunities to work with North Sydney Sunrise.
Last month I attended a District’s President’s meeting, as well as had a coffee with the presidents of Chatswood, Lane Cove, North Sydney Sunrise & Mosman(later this week.)
This starts the year’s theme of building on working with other clubs to share ideas, share the workload, improve Rotary’s image in the community. Again a few of these are listed below. Albeit we are already working well with these club. (i.e. D-Café, tree of Joy, etc)
Finally we send our best wishes to Tom, who has been in hospital for 10 days, but is well on the road to recovery and due to be home this week.
The Freedom Hub is a unique organisation founded in 2014 by human rights advocate and procurement specialist, Sally Irwin. 100% of our profits go towards a Survivor School where we train and equip survivors here in Australia to rebuild their lives and become work ready. To fund this we set up a social enterprise that includes:
Ethical Business Services - education ASX100 companies about human rights and ethical business practices, policies and supply chains with ‘survivor-informed’ guidance.
Cafe - located in Waterloo Sydney, providing food and drinks to locals
The changeover dinner was very successful and a great venue. The awards and recognition were well deserved, and the new board was introduced and warmly acknowledged. The club is operating very well and continues to build excellent relationships across the community.
Discussion items:
Crows Nest Fair - 19th October. Ross to co-ordinated with Louise & Leah.
Mary House Walk Oct 26th. Five local Rotary clubs are to combine to have BBQ for 1000 walkers prior to starting the walk at St. Leonard’s park.
Car Boot Sale to raise money. Idea from Lane Cove, similar to North Sydney running Ernest place markets. Ken & Mark to identify North Sydney councillor to approach.
First Aid for schools. Adrienne progressing very well. North Sydney Sunrise interested in copying.
District Grant Approved. $5000 (of $15000) towards Breast Screening unit for RNSH.
Cluster lead (Jade) has organised a cluster meeting with The District Governor. Lane Cove on Tuesday October 21st.
Board to decide if we cancel October evening meeting so club members can attend.
North Sydney Sunrise has given a significant donation to Mary’s House, and Ken will touch base with Louise so there is no overlap.
North Sydney Sunrise is also keen on Youth activities, so their Youth director will contact Adrienne
Be aware of Club Runner SPAM. Check the email address. Rotary does not ask for gift cards.
