President's Report.
Rotarians,
To cap off a busy month, we had our AGM on November 3. This AGM reflected the very successful year and the continued growth of the club. There is one outstanding item- that of finding a President for next year which we will revisit early next year. Anyone considering the role please be assured you will be fully supported by numerous past presidents in the club.
On the fund-raising front we assisted Mary’s with their walk and were pleased that the Mary’s House BBQ and walk was successful raising $218,000. We also had a bumper Bunnings BBQ on November 1 raising $2,200.
Please note that our next meeting on November 17 will have Sam Quinn reviewing how our club runs, and your input is welcome, in fact essential. Our December lunch meeting has moved to December 8th and will include a board meeting open to all members and finally look out for an invite to the Giving night on Monday December 15th.
My AGM report:
It was great to receive in recent months, significant recognition for the club, by both our District Governor during her visit & in State parliament by local MP, Felicity Wilson. Punching above our weight is the term being used. A big Thank you to all members.
Membership remains a key focus. We had one additional member this year, with two others committed to join in the new year, with 13 ‘leads’ from last month’s Crows Nest Fair. On top of that we have Sam Quinn assisting the District Governor understand what makes a good club retain and attract members.
I’ll defer to our directors report on their specific projects with a special thanks to Louise for directing her work in the local community, supported by a number of others. This is supplemented by my regular contact with CEO (Denise Ward) of the Crows Nest Community centre and Ross’s work with the business community of Crows Nest.
The BBQ at Bunning remains our major fundraiser and with monthly BBQ profit regularly hitting over $2000, plus our Melbourne Cup Trifecta slowing growing with $8,000 profit this year.
Another theme for the coming year is working with other clubs. I have met with Presidents from 5 other clubs. Lane Cove has donated $2000 towards our RNSH Breast screening unit, and we assisted in their Fair. Tree of Joy project continues with Chatswood, and all 5 clubs combined for the Mary’s House Walk BBQ. North Sydney sunrise has expressed an interest in following our lead with Canteen support, and our first aid in school project. More joint functions (i.e. Pride of Workmanship) are planned.
My thanks to all the Board and Members for making Crows Nest a jewel in District 9685. The current board is a great combination of experienced Rotarians and some fresh blood who are exceeding our expectations. Finally I encourage you, your family and friends to attend our Giving night where you will hear from the Charities on how they used the money ($22,000) we have raised this year.
