PRESIDENT'S COLUMN

Dear Rotarians,

Last Monday, despite a  number of apologies, it was extremely pleasing to see the room was full with so many members & guests attending to catch-up with District Governor Kalma.   Always a pleasure to welcome PDG Gina Growden, and Assistant Governor Ward Pollard.  Ryde Rotarian Geoff Brennan also gave us a good “rev-up” about next year’s District Conference.
Of note, is the tick of Approval' DG Kalma gave to our Plans for our Rotary Year 2019-20!
DG Kalma enjoyed the meeting and I personally appreciated her feedback / tips.
In an email on Tuesday;  Thank you for the great photos Philip – these are great!
And thank you President Mark, and to all your club members, for having me yesterday and allowing me to share a little time with you all.  I really appreciate your contributions across the District, and for giving me a chance to talk with you all.  Rgds  DG Kalma
As usual I have noted yet more agenda items for the board meeting on September 3rd. The Agenda will issue this week.
A big Thank You to Harold, who with Bruce’s help, is progressing our participation in the Crows Nest Fair (late October). Of particular note is that “Days for Girls” have agreed to join us.
Whilst I’m no salesman, and this column is not about “event reminders”, I must recommend attending Chatswood’s Trivia night on August 31st.  MC, Tom Sweeny still has 3 spots left on our 2nd table.  Also - just one last reminder that we have 2 spots left on our table for RI President’s dinner on September 23rd.  Harold & Gina assure me that it will be an interesting night.  Please let me know ASAP.
Yours in Rotary
Mark

ROTARY: CONNECTS THE WORLD 2019-20

Next Meeting Monday 26 August 2019 our Speaker is Daniel Anderson Club Manager of the PCYC North Sydney

On June 2 2019 more than 300 police and civilian representatives from Police Citizens Youth Clubs from around NSW gathered at Sydney’s Novotel Olympic Park.
CEO Dominic Teakle said, in its 80th year, the PCYC board had approved Empowering Young People, a new five-year strategy for the organisation, which is a unique partnership between the community and the NSW Police Force.
“Over the next five-year period, Empowering Young People will lay the foundation for the partnership with police and community across our network of more than 64 clubs,” he said.

Last Monday's Meeting - the 19th of August 2019; Our Guest was our District Governor, Kalma McLellan

Kalma joined the Rotary Club of Ryde in 2010, and has held many positions Including President, and in District; District Community Service Chair, and on the District Child Protection Committee.  Kalma has a heritage in Rotary, following in the footsteps of her father (Blacktown club) and grandfather (Manly club). She was a Mosman Rotaractor in the 1970s.  Professionally, Kalma works in the vocational education sector through Western Sydney University.

Kalma’s Theme this year is ‘Rotary Connects the World’.

From our President's Report above; DG Kalma approved of our Plans for our Rotary Year 2019-20 and wished us well.   Club Officers and Members spoke on what our Club was currently involved in and DG Kalma gave a really rousing motivational reponse to each subject raised.  Members do really appreciate the DG's annual visit to our Club.

REMINDERS;
The Rotary International President is visiting Sydney!!
As you are probably aware, 2019-20 Rotary International President Mark Daniel Maloney and his wife Gay will be visiting Sydney in September 2019.   International President Mark is very keen to meet as many Rotarians as he can whilst he is here, so a special dinner will be hosted by Mark and his wife Gay, and Rotarians in Districts 9685, 9675 and 9670 are invited to attend.
This is a special opportunity for Rotarians to meet and be inspired by our world leader and at the same time enjoy a 5-star meal at one of Sydney’s premier restaurants on beautiful Sydney Harbour.   It’s very rare for us to have a World President visit us, particularly during his term of office, and we are very privileged.  This is definitely an opportunity not to be missed!
