Rotarians,

This month we have moved from holiday mode to ‘full gear’.

Early this month we raised over $2600 at our monthly BBQ and donated a freezer to Mary’s house. Angelo is co-ordinating a BBQ at Cammeray public school with the proceeds going to the school.

Our RYLA sponsored student (Ethan) presented to our last meeting with an excellent talk on his experience. While not life changing, he learnt a lot that will stay with him for the rest of his life. It was pleasing to note that Ethan plans to be a RYLA trainer in the future.

A thanks to Sam who ran another Club Health session with items like ‘classifying and prioritizing’ charities, budget & Governance being discussed with a few action items for the board next month.

Ross and Bev have revisited the list of potential members. Their great work has resulted in some new guests coming to the last meeting and potential for more visitors. This is a great outcome.

Finally please start thinking about nominations for Pride of Workmanship now schedule for May 19, 2026

ROTARY CROWS NEST AND LANE COVE UNITE FOR THE GREATER GOOD

NEW BREASTSCREEN BIOPSY SYSTEM

Crows Nest Rotary, with the valued support of Lane Cove Rotary, has proudly contributed to improved women’s health services through the donation of a new Breast Biopsy Driver System to the RNS BreastScreen Service.

The state‑of‑the‑art device, now in operation at the RNS Community Health Centre, represents a $15,000 investment in patient care. The majority of funding was provided by Crows Nest Rotary, supplemented by a District Grant and contributions from Lane Cove Rotary.

Members from both Rotary clubs recently visited the BreastScreen Service to see the new biopsy driver in use. The visit provided valuable insight into how this equipment enhances clinical processes and improves the patient experience.

Under the previous system, breast biopsies required the use of a large machine and a mammogram, which could often be uncomfortable for patients.
The new biopsy driver offers a modern solution: a compact, handheld device used in conjunction with ultrasound guidance. This approach allows clinicians to perform biopsies more efficiently and comfortably, supporting a better overall patient experience.

In addition to clinical benefits, the new system also supports environmental sustainability. It replaces a large tub‑and‑tubing setup with a small plastic container approximately the size of a medicine cup, significantly reducing clinical waste and simplifying disposal.

This initiative showcases the impact Rotary clubs can achieve when working together. Through collaboration, Crows Nest Rotary and Lane Cove Rotary have strengthened local health services and contributed to improved care across the community.
