My year as President of the Club is coming to a close. Although I am very happy with the outcome of my year as President, we have had a mixed year due to the COVID19 pandemic, which turned our physical meetings into Zoom meetings! But I am pleased to say, members embraced the concept and with a little help from our ‘Zoom Guru’ member Philip, attendance at Zoom meetings was great! And we had some really good, interesting Speakers!
And now at last, we are able to look forward to ‘physical Meetings’ again.
As mentioned last week we have locked in our President’s Changeover Dinner for 7pm Monday 13th July at the Northbridge Golf club. We already have 20 acceptances, so please accept/decline the invitation as soon as possible, to enable our caterer to plan. Partners are welcome.
Due to the success of our Zoom meetings, President Elect Ian, and the Board, are introducing a two month trial of physical lunchtime meetings at the Crows Nest Hotel and alternate evening Zoom Meetings at 7.30pm. Therefore our first Monday lunch at the Crows Nest hotel will be Monday July 20th, I’m really looking forward to catching up with members, in person, albeit with social distancing in place.
My other key activity this week is to catch up on watching a few sessions of the ‘Virtual’ Rotary International Conference. Video copies of all sessions are available at their web site; riconvention.org
Bunnings has advised that there will be no BBQ's until further notice due to the outcome of the Corona Virus.We will advise as soon as this policy has been changed.
Our Next Meeting, via Zoom, will be on Monday 29th June 2020 when our Speaker will be our very own member, Michael McQueen! who will confide with us on the subject of 'how to maintain momentum in tough times!
We have a special U-Tube presentation by Michael which he gave to Rotary-UK on maintaining momentum in all aspects of life ,including Rotary,in Tough Times.Not unlike today
Reminders;
- July 13th Changeover Dinner, 7pm Northbridge Golf Club,
At our Meeting on the 22nd June 2020 our Speaker was Raj Bagpai;
Raj Bagpai currently represents nbn as a community ambassador. In his role, he is responsible for having conversations with a wide variety of community groups so as to help them better understand the nuances of nbn roll out. NBN Co was established in 2009 to design, build and operate Australia’s wholesale broadband access network. Underpinned by a purpose to connect Australia and bridge the digital divide, nbn’s key objective is to ensure all Australians have access to fast broadband as soon as possible, at affordable prices, and at least cost.
To achieve this objective, nbn has been structured as a wholesale-only, open-access broadband network. nbn provides services on its local access network on equivalent terms to retail phone and internet providers, to provision for end-user needs. This is intended to level the playing field in Australian telecommunications, creating real and vibrant competition within the industry and providing choice for consumers.
