President's Extra Message
The good news is that the D’Cafe recommenced last week, after almost 18 months on hold due to the pandemic!; and 10 visitors came and enjoyed morning tea with our Volunteers!  Well done Sue and Denise our other volunteers!  If you know of a friend or relative suffering with Dementia, consider coming to the monthly D’Cafe events!

We tend to take for granted the clean and generally safe and plentiful water sources to which we have access.  Rotary International, through the combined actions of individual Rotarians and Rotary Clubs, seeks to assure that all people have adequate access to clean and safe water.   The Rotary theme for March, Water and Sanitation, asks us to focus on the life changing improvements that we can make through these international, as well as local projects to provide a more readily available and healthy supply of water to all people.
The Rotary Foundation has established a Disaster Response Fund to provide assistance to resident of Rotary Districts around the World.  Rotary Disaster Response Grants support relief and recovery efforts in areas that have been affected by natural disasters within the past six months.
Our District is preparing an application for a Disaster Response Grant to aid resident of our District 9685.  We can only apply for one grant of up to $US 25,000,(about $AU 34,000) and must describe projects ready to use these funds specifically for this disaster.  These will be Rotary-initiated projects, not simply payments to another organization.
We can combine contributions from several clubs into one application.  Lets consider this!

Next Meeting is Monday, the 4th of April - Speaker TBA

THIS MEETING WILL BE HELD via ZOOM.

We have returned to every 2nd week @ the Union hotel (Cnr Pacific Highway & West St, North Sydney)  , and Alterative weeks  via Zoom.
Check weekly eBulletin for confirmation of venue.

News:

Saturday's BBQ had it's usual ups and downs ,but overall ,once underway ran fairly smoothly .Not quite as busy as two weeks ago ,nevertheless the results were very good ,with a profit of $1200 achieved. Well done by all involved. Good to see as a result of the rusty BBQ plate that greeted us on arrival, Bunnings will now institute a practice whereby they spray the surface with oil at the end of the weekend use to preserve the surface. Will be interesting to see how effective this is in following weeks.

Good news, our new Member Lea advises that her husband Kevin ( of the Condell dynasty) will become a Club Member shortly .We would certainly welcome Kevin, and we appreciate his efforts on the BBQ in recent years.

Sue advises that she has finally made contact with Mark Lee from Phoenix House, and  the Coffee machine and the fridge have been purchased . The Coffee machine is now operational with 3 staff members trained on how to use it. The fridge is being delivered in the next few days. Once he has all the receipts he will forward them on
So, good news, another District Grant Project coming to completion.

It was great to see the D-Cafe restart again last Wednesday at the Community Centre. A credit to the Centre and and the local Rotary Clubs involved. A small turnout, but a great "pick me up" for the dementia patients and their carers .We look forward to the next one in a month's time.

Finally, Bill reminded us of the Fellowship Dinner on the 14th of May at Storage Works, and an invitation will be issued shortly so we can start looking at numbers

Our Guest Speaker today was Meredith Fannelli from the Children's Tumour Foundation. Meredith is one of the Support Services Coordinators ,and in that role, it enables her to utilise her skills and experience in patient/client advocacy, service development and health professional education and training.  She readily admits that she had not previously heard of Neurofibromatosis, but has made it a mission to learn and research the condition and to raise awareness, particularly amongst medical and health professionals. . Meredith was able to advise of many examples of what these children go through ,the operations ,the symptoms ,recovery and hopefully return to a normal life ,which is not always possible.
