PRESIDENT'S COLUMN

Hello, Members and our Rotary Friends receiving this eBulletin.

A interesting Zoom session this week.

Firstly a big Thank You to our incoming President Tom, who attended the first three sessions of the District Assembly last Saturday. As well as attending the "Foundation" session which enables us to apply for a District grant next year, he was "re-invigorated" by some speakers/items in the opening session. I look forward to hearing his ideas for next year at the Changeover Dinner.

We also had a guest (Helen Campbell) from North Sydney Council to answer questions on their request to put an additional (aboriginal) flag on our flagpole at Crows Nest. As a result we have agreed to allow the additional flag.

A urgent request for help this weekend for volunteers for the BBQ. If you can spare a few hours please contact Ian.

Finally we have a board meeting last week. The link to the minutes is on the right hand side of this eBulletin.

Have a great week. Looking forward to seeing you, and your guests, at Dinner next Monday. Speaking will be Neil Davies, the new CEO of Phoenix House.

Yours in Rotary Service
President Ross

President Elect Tom who represented us at District Assembly passed on that it generated a few new ideas, and he was impressed with a number of the speakers.
We will hear more on this at the Changeover dinner, where Tom will reveal his plans for the 2023/2024 year.  One theme he would like to pursue is hands on for Local Projects.
District Assembly continues via Zoom this weekend.

Local Council attended to discuss their plan for an Aboriginal Flag on our flagpole at Crows Nest. We agreed with the key points being
  1. There will be no additional cost to the Rotary Club for either installation or maintenance.
  2. The current plague will not be touched, and Rotary will sign-off on the wording of any additional plague.
  3. You will take the opportunity to replace the current Australian flag. It is getting frayed, and will be too big for a Yardarm.
  4. Standard flag protocols will be followed in terms of placement of the two flags.
  5. Rotary is a non-political organisation, and we need to ensure this is supporting the community, and not dragged into debates like The Voice.
