PRESIDENT'S COLUMN

My Fellow Rotarians,

Today we were given the sad news that Mark Staples’s father suddenly passed away. Our Club sends our Deepest Sympathy and Sincere Condolences to Mark and his Family.

Late this afternoon we received official final approval for our District Grant for Our Project with Mary’s House Women’s Refuge. Peter Coote and his committee can now get this fantastic Project underway.

Our Drought Relief Project is well under way . I was humbled by the generosity of Australians who gave to our Drought Relief Collection at our BBQ last Saturday at Bunnings Artarmon and by the anonymous private donations we have since received . Our Club will continue to collect donations until November 1st and together with our partner Rotary Clubs, Chatswood, Chatswood Sunrise, Chatswood International ,Roseville, Northbridge, Crows Nest Rotary Club hope to be able to buy bales of feed ,IGA vouchers and Diesel fuel vouchers to help our farmers.

On a lighter note at our Meeting today we had our first “If I was...... talk .”

Tom Sweeney had our Members enthralled with his rendition.

We extend a warm welcome to Marian Pereira who has agreed to join Crows Nest Rotary Club .

See you next week.

Susan

During the week,Peter C and Angelo attended the Rotary Drought Relief Committee, representing a number of North Shore clubs. The objective to buy hay bales and/or diesel plus food vouchers for drought affected farmers in NSW and Queensland. For example a truck load of hay bales cost approx. $5000 plus $5000 freight ,as most of the available hay comes from South Australia. The promotion will run until the 1st of November, and co-ordinated fund raising activities will take place at Chatswood Chase on the 26th of August,Chatswood/Willoughby Fair on the 1st of September and Crows Nest Fair on the 20th of October. At the same time Clubs will have their own activities such as our Bunnings BBQ on Saturday, Peter C organised a donation bucket and some promotional material and we were able to raise the incredible amount of $1,806,15 in separate donations .
