PRESIDENT'S COLUMN

Dear Fellow Rotarians and Friends,

Well we really have to admire the dedication and commitment of Celeste Mergens, as founder of Days for Girls, and on a world- wide basis, making such a difference to younger girls in developing countries seeking to lead a “normal” life .Such an inspirational talk from our Guest Speaker.
Well between now and the end of the year, as a Club, we certainly have a lot on.
Board Meeting, BBQ this Saturday, AGM on the 30th, end of Year Giving Night/Christmas Party, finishing off with the Tree of Joy. Certainly a lot to get through .Mind you, before the end of the year, we’ll be having a few more BBQ’s so please assist Howard as he prepares the Roster
But please, I sincerely ask all Members to consider their Club involvement for next year at the AGM. If in doubt please talk to Mark or myself.

2020 - 2021

Next Monday's Meeting 23rd November - Rotary Foundation.

Past District Governor Bruce Larkin, who chairs the District Foundation committee,  will speak to us today.

The Rotary Foundation is a not-for-profit corporation that supports the efforts of Rotary International to achieve world understanding and peace through international humanitarian, educational, and cultural exchange programs.  It is supported solely by voluntary contributions from Rotarians and friends of The Rotary Foundation who share its vision of a better world.

The Rotary Foundation was created in 1917 by Rotary International's sixth President, Arch C. Klumph, as an endowment fund for Rotary "to do good in the world".  It has grown from an initial contribution of US$26.50 to more than US$245 million contributed in 2007-08.  Its event-filled history is a story of Rotarians learning the value of service to humanity.

The Rotary Foundation's Humanitarian Programs funds international Rotary Club and District projects to improve the quality of life, providing health care, clean water, food, education, and other essential needs primarily in the developing world.  One of the major Humanitarian Programs is PolioPlus, which seeks to eradicate the polio virus worldwide.

Last Meeting Monday  16th November 2020 - Days for Girls

Celeste Mergens, last Monday, presented her story on video, being the Founder of Days for Girls. The video ‘the Story of Days for Girls', was recorded in September 2020 and is the first time the Founder has presented her story of the Days for Girls journey.

Celeste said, the Objective of Days for Girls is to help women and girls have access to quality menstrual supplies they can count on month after month and year after year. Our washable pads are innovative enough to hold a US Patent. It is uniquely designed to wash with little water and dry quickly. Reported by users worldwide to last 2 - 5 years with proper care.

What started with helping one girl, has escalated to helping all women World Wide, who do not have access to menstrual supplies they can count on, month after month.  A true success story, and Rotary has helped it on its way.

Since Days for Girls started recording Kit distributions, we have delivered over 192,000 DfG Kits to girls in 63 countries around the world.  During 2019/2020 45,862 DfG Kits were distributed across 44 countries.  We currently have 17 Chapters, 92 Teams, 3 School Clubs and 1 Team in Training, across Australia

News:

Vale - Bill Crowe
It was great sadness that we convey the news that PP Bill Crowe passed away on the weekend. Bill was president in 1985-86. He has been an honorary member for many years due to ill health. Whilst many of the newer members may have not met Bill many of us older members remember him dearly. He was a stalwart at the club and a great leader and friend to all.
