Attendance at last Monday's lunch was down due to illness, meetings and travel by some members. Our next meeting is a joint night meeting with Northbridge Rotary at Infuzion Restaurant in Cammeray on June 17. Our special guest speakers are from Kieser, a physiotherapist and a sport science organization.
After the meal we will visit the Kieser facility about 100 metres down Miller St next to the Shell Service station. Sue and I are regular attendees and recommend you come and see. Please register with Tom (sweeney.tom@hotmail.com) if you are attending as we need to notify them of numbers attending.
Congratulation to Michelle Ellery who will take over as DG a year early due to the resignation of John Campbell.
District changeover is on June 28th at Wenty Leagues Club. Sue and I would love some company on the night. Details to follow.
We have a number of prospective members who will be attending our meetings in the next month. Please make them feel welcome.
District has a number of training courses coming up. Anyone interested should check the district website. The club will pay the registration fee.
Thursday next week is the Gordon Waterhouse Memorial Music Scholarship event at the Zenith theatre organised by Chatswood Roseville Club. This is a free night. There is a pre-show dinner organised by Andre for $30 upstairs at the Chatswood station.
Louise has completed the District Grant paperwork for the Breast Scan Elevation Biopsy Device at RNSH.
No speaker but a healthy update/discussion on a number of items.
First key item was Crows Nest Rotary has been approached by North’s Foundation (fundraising arm of RNSH) to help fund an Elevation Biopsy Driver and charging port, that is used at Breast Screen Clinic in St Leonard’s. This device is a handheld tool called "BD EleVation Breast BiopsySystem", designed to assist clinicians in collecting tissue samples from the breast or lymph nodes to help diagnose abnormalities.
What makes this equipment particularly valuable is its ability to reduce the need for general anaesthetic and significantly shorten hospital stays- making the procedure less invasive and far more comfortable for patients. The cost has risen to $17,000 but we are fortunate to be able to purchase it at the original quote price of $15,000. As a club we are applying for a District Grant totalling $5,000. Louise & Angelo are working on getting other Rotary clubs to join us.
Secondly, Sue reported that last week's D Cafe was very successful, and numbers are growing. Both clients and their carers are giving excellent feedback. There is a potential need to increase to two D Cafe per month.
Thirdly, incoming President Mark, has met with Incoming North Sydney Sunrise President, Ken Preshaw, and they are keen to join us in projects/activities like our work with local schools, CANTEEN, Pride of Workmanship, etc.
