Monday’s Meeting was very lively with great fellowship before and enthusiastic discussions during the meeting.
On Saturday the 11th I attended the last President’s meeting at Hornsby. District Governor Susan Wakefield gave us a brief summary of her year so far.
DG Susan mentioned she has visited every Club and was pleased with the works and projects achieved by them.
DG Susan mentioned that she attended our 50th Anniversary celebratory Dinner saying it was a wonderful milestone and a great night.
District 9685 Awards were handed out at Saturday’s meeting. Sadly we did not receive any but the Clubs who did definitely deserved them.
At this Meeting the final vote re the merger discussion was taken. The results were very close with 27 NO votes and 26 Yes votes being the result.
Also distributed were the Shelterbox awards. Rotarian Johanna Johns commented on the generosity of the Clubs in our District and announced that Crows Nest were awarded a Silver Award for our on going contribution to Shelterbox over the last 3 years . Only 1 Club received a Gold Award. I am very proud that our Club supports this project and I congratulate PP Howard Sullivan on the ongoing contribution and commitment he has made to Shelterbox.

He will be speaking about a Teachers on Wheels project called Yuva Deepa also known as Young Light.
Last Meeting - Monday the 13th we welcomed Edmond D'Cruz of Phoenix House
Last Monday, Edmund D’Çruz, CEO of Phoenix House spoke to us. Please note that Phoenix House has won Community group of the year (North Sydney) and Monash University has validated their transformational model described below.
Since 2015, Phoenix House has ‘re-invented’ itself to focus on Training and education. For every youth that goes off the rails it costs the community $1million, so skilling them up in the early days is essential.
Three key programs are in place. Learning Ready which completes Year 10, then Tafe / University or jobs. Then Work Ready for work exchange following by Life Ready for Well Being and living skills. Many youths have been rejected by youth accommodation as they do not have these basic Life skills. They also have Integrated Case management & Counselling.
Edmund discussed his current Challenge in getting a house for Living Skills training. In July they will be piloting the 5 day course at Phoenix house, while it is available, but need a property for ongoing use. The course covers practical (i.e. Cleaning), Expenses & budgets, Living with others, Physical health & tenancy management. If you know anyone you can help, please call Edmund.
We appreciated the update on the new Phoenix House. For more information you can go to their facebook page.
