Nepal Earthquake Appeals
| Nepal Earthquake Appeals |
On Saturday 25 April, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck the Kathmandu Valley in Nepal. The next day a 6.7 magnitude aftershock caused further damage and casualties. Over 2,200 people have been reported dead, and many thousand injured. Yesterday's earthquake was the worst tremor to hit Nepal in 80 years.
The following was written by David Waterhouse (of the Rotary Club of The Entrance):
"We are both well and staying with Ashok Shrestha a member of the Rotary Club of Dhulikhel in Banepa about 38 km east of Kathmandu. The school we were working on in Sindhuli has come to halt as the workers had to return to their villages to look after their families. Yesterday we travelled the 150 Km up from Sindhuli to help Ashok pack and distribute food packages
"Please refer to the attached, this is the situation that Dianne and I are working in. We are desperately in need of money to buy food. I was wondering if our club and the clubs on the Central Coast or indeed District 9685, could contribute something towards this project. Our problem is that the situation is desperate and we really need funds within the next 3 days as it is a very poor country and they only live from day to day. The foreign aid that is coming in is going to Kathmandu but the outlying Districts also need help. please let me know if you can do anything from your end."
