Transitional Community Housing

Jul 07, 2025 12:30 pm

Support is growing rapidly amongst Rotary clubs to tackle the homelessness challenge we are facing as a society. My own club, Kenthurst is leading the way and DG Niranjan has also thrown his support behind what Transitional Community Housing is achieving in the homelessness sector.

Our organisation started some 9 years ago, targeting the fastest growing cohort of homeless people – women over 55. This is a national shame that doesn’t get much publicity.

The wait for social and affordable housing can be up to 10 years and Transitional Community Housing Ltd is looking to provide properties to bridge the gap between homelessness and social housing.

Our country is in the middle of a housing disaster and it seems the only way to alleviate this problem is through community driven projects such as our program.

We have already started presentations to Rotary clubs in district 9685 to raise awareness of homelessness and its root causes and how Rotarians can make a difference to this growing social problem we all face.

We have a power point presentation that reveals the cold hard facts and our Chair, Ian Thomson (North Sydney Sunrise Rotary) and I would love to address your club as guest speakers. Our website is www.transitionalcommunityhousing.org.au

Freedom Hub - Slavery in Australia

Aug 18, 2025

The Freedom Hub is a unique organisation founded in 2014 by human rights advocate and procurement specialist, Sally Irwin. 100% of our profits go towards a Survivor School where we train and equip survivors here in Australia to rebuild their lives and become work ready. To fund this we set up a social enterprise that includes:

  • Ethical Business Services - education ASX100 companies about human rights and  ethical business practices, policies and supply chains with ‘survivor-informed’ guidance.
  • Cafe - located in Waterloo Sydney, providing food and drinks to locals
  • Ethical Catering - providing slavery-free catering for events, board meetings, parties
  • Ethical Events - hosting events in the Waterloo venue space eg. Weddings, Birthdays
  • Retail & Wholesale Products - selling ethical, slavery-free products.

Speaker Bio: Sarah Parker is a purpose-driven leader with a career spanning marketing, brand strategy, and business growth in the for-purpose sector. Having worked within the commercial sector for luxury brands, homewares, FMCH and healthcare she now uses those skills to drive social impact. As Social Enterprise Manager at The Freedom Hub, she leads the strategic direction and daily operations of its ethical business ventures including the café, event venue, catering, retail and consulting services. Sarah combines sharp commercial insight with a deep commitment to social impact, blending sales, leadership, and relationship-building to drive sustainable growth.
