PRESIDENT'S COLUMN
Hello Rotarians,

We had a great meeting on Monday in which we covered off all our current activities and plans for the rest of the year. Our board meeting has been moved to this week as next Monday’s meeting will be an evening meeting combined with the Pride of workmanship awards on Thursday night at Northbridge Golf Club. If you have not yet RSVP’d for this, please do so ASAP. On Monday we have Alex from Atma Immersive Journeys as our speaker which should be interesting as well. See you on Monday.

Yours in Rotary

Next Meeting is on MONDAY the 6th of November.

Our speaker this week, is Alex Carpenter.

Alex Carpenter is a serial entrepreneur who has started 4 for-profit businesses and 2 for-purpose businesses. These ventures have all been in completely different industries with some being sold and some going bankrupt. His current venture, ATMA is a not for profit travel company seeking to empower communities around the world and deliver unique and immersive holidays.

ATMA is created in partnership with local social enterprises from around the world. They partner with existing social enterprises so that all the profit from the tours goes to support the inspiring work they are already doing. ATMA is entirely run by passionate volunteers who believe in creating a positive impact. LAST MONDAY's Meeting

Today’s meeting was spent in discussion about key activities within the club.  Key points were

Alon opened by reminding us of our five core areas of focus. These being International, Children welfare, Community , Domestic Violence & Youth.

Pride of workmanship Award dinner in conjunction with North Sydney Sunrise. Tom is still seeking nominations and also requests that members to respond to his event invitation, so he knows where he stands. Currently we have 12 attending from Crows Nest. Please note we have cancelled the Monday meeting that week(Nov13th). Michael agreed to be doorman.

Community activities include Tree of Joy with Chatswood Rotary from 11th until 16th of December. Delvina house cooking classes are proceeding well, and Taldumande Youth have a list of  required whitegoods coming.

Neuroblastoma have a Gala night on February 22nd next year, and the board has agreed to be a $3000 sponsor. Alon will circulate details and we hope to have at least a table of ten.

Following on from our successful China school program from 1997 til 2007, Bill has a request from Taiwan for us to sponsor 10 students @ $1500 each. It will be passed onto the board for consideration.

Our combined Xmas party / Giving Night being organised by our Past President Peter, will be at the Malabar restaurant on December 11th (Cost $45).

Melbourne Cup trifecta is going well with a record number of sets sold to other clubs. Crows Nest club itself still has 250 tickets to sell. Please call Angelo ASAP if you can help.

In terms of membership & improving the club, we discussed the idea of a "summit" for getting community input. Tom offered to look into meeting format & frequency. Should we separate the meal from the meeting ? If so, can we meet at the Crows nest community centre for the meeting, with heaps of options for a meal before or after.

Also note that the board meeting has been moved from Nov 13th to Nov 6th.  All members are encouraged to read the minutes and give input to board members.

AGM is on Monday 27th November. Seeking nominations for President, please see Angelo if interested.
