Monday was our first Club Assembly for the year. Those Directors present gave a brief impromptu report on their portfolios. Club members also ratified protocols to apply to our Club Child Protection Policy and our Risk Management Plan.
While these policies are a part of Good Governance for our Club’s administration; they are also a legal requirement. The State Government Children’s Guardian Office requires the Club to have a stated Child Protection Policy and as George pointed out Risk Management is a requirement for our Insurance.
Next on our agenda is to upgrade our Constitution and Bylaws and to adopt a Conflict Management protocol. I hope to have these completed promptly.
We had a stall at the Crows Nest Fair on Sunday – details below and here. I certainly did not appreciate how many people attended this event, it was good exposure for the Club.
I guess you saw Les Walsh’s email advising that he was moving to Caloundra. The Club set his transfer fee at $4.3M – decided by a Club Assembly, so should be binding. I imagine $AUD would be acceptable. Nevertheless we will miss him if he ceases to be our internet guru. Thanks Les for your tremendous input.

Last Sunday, seven members helped man our stall at the annual Crows Nest Fair. Willoughby Road from Albany Road to Falcon Street and all the side streets were blocked off and literally lined by stalls on either side of the streets promoting or selling all manner of food, drinks, jewellery, nick–nacks and clothes.
Our Crows Nest Fair committee of Sue, Michelle and Alon decided in the planning stages that we should give away cooked popcorn to children free. They had various ideas for cooking it nearby but fortunately Sue found a source of freshly cooked bulk popcorn.
Between 9.30am and 1.30pm, we gave away 700 plastic cups of popcorn.
Why did we do it ?
We are a Crows Nest based service Club. The street was packed with a continual stream of people between 10am and 2pm. This gave our Club a great exposure to the community and a chance to promote who we are and what we do – hopefully we may gain some interested people as members.
A big thank you to the organising committee and a big thank you to those members that manned the stall – Sue and Angelo, Celia and Peter, Ian, Alon and John.
