Well, We have reached the end of Australia’s holiday fiesta – it leaves me double checking what day it is and what I should be doing each day. So two weeks of no Rotary has unhinged my agenda but this marks the end of the bulk of the public holidays for the year. There are a few more but once New Year’s Day , Australia Day, Easter and Anzac Day are done the rest of the holidays are spread out and more sporadic.
Today I visited The Spirit of Anzac Exhibition at Darling Harbour. It focused on Australia’s involvement in the First World War. What a futile war, Australia with a population of 5 million lost 60,000 soldiers dead and three times that number wounded. Germany lost 1,300,000 and Turkey 770,000 – how do you accommodate such losses! Anzac Day celebrates the sacrifices that those Australians made for a greater good. Many thanks to them.
So now back to reality, holidays over, next meeting will be at the Union Hotel next Monday 1st May. Our speaker, Tim Dodds is a friend and client of mine, but more interestingly is the principal of the Chatswood Primary School. This school has an extremely high content of students of Asian origin and has a very strong association with these students “home” countries and culture.
