Apologies for my absence on Monday and Saturday night, Shalva decided to take me away for the weekend for my birthday. We headed to our nation’s capital – a first for my Yank wife. It sounds like there was an excellent meeting on Monday, I’m sorry I missed it. Congratulations to Mark on a very successful poker evening, by all accounts it sounded like a lot of fun. See you all on Monday!

LAST MONDAY's Meeting
Today’s talk was from Niranjan Deodhar, from the Rotary Club of Beecroft. The presentation was about a Sanitation project in Mewat, India. The Beecroft club has ask Crows Nest to join them in putting together a Global grant to fund “round 2” of this project. Even though India is the 2nd largest donor to the Rotary Foundation, it still needs more.
Mewat Village is 100km south of Delhi, where 1000 of their 3000 homes do not have any toilets. This not only leads to the usual sanitation problems, but includes issues of dignity & in the case of women - safety. (I.e. Many teenage girls don’t go to school, because schools also do not have toilets). Involvement of the local Rotary clubs ensures sustainability, and the project is link to the Government “Cleaning Campaign”.
Rounds 2 of this project aims to deliver another 200 toilets, on top of the 250 delivered in round 1. Each toilet costs $US240. South Delhi Metro Rotary club is the local contact, and will visit the village council, and help chose which families are given priority. Usually extended families, with women, relying on Government welfare for those below the poverty line. Family commitment involves allocation of their land, and the digging of the pit required.
Niranjan’ s talk finished with photo from his recent trip, and answers to questions that our International director(Ian) had sent. Ian is in the middle of co-ordinating a number of international project, potentially worthy of Crows Nest funding.
Pride of workmanship Award dinner. Tom is still seeking nominations and also requests that members to respond to his event invitation, so he knows where he stands. Please note we have cancelled the Monday meeting that week(Nov13th).
Last weekend’s BBQ was successful with no issues. Next BBQ is November 4th and volunteers needed.
